A Cutler, Calif., fruit packing company is recalling specific lots of fresh peaches, plums, nectarines and pluots sold nationwide to Cotsco and Trader Joe's from June 1 to July 12 over concerns of possible listeria contamination.

Internal testing at the company's packing house in Cutler, in Tulare County discovered the problem.

Wawaona Packing Company President Brent Smittcamp said in a statement that the voluntary recall was issued after consulting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Listeria can cause serious illness and even death for sensitive groups such as children, the frail and elderly.

If you purchased the fruit you are encouraged to discard it.

The company does not know where the contamination came from. And the company does not know all the of the companies that bought fruit from its wholesalers.

Customers can go to to check your packed fruit.
