Redding Man Trying to Collect 1 Million Pennies for Charity

He's turning 100 and is collecting $10,000 for charity -- in pennies.

Redding resident Al Ehrhardt hits the century mark this week and has a goal of collecting a million pennies.

He's been collecting them over the past seven years, so he's well on his way.

Wally Clark, chairman of the Sacramento Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center Board of Governors says of Ehrhardt:

"He rolled about 600,000 pennies, which we figured out is 12,000 rolls."

The incentive is there because the Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center gets the pennies.

If you'd like to get some copper off your hands, you can drop it off at the Scottish Rite Temple at 6151 H Street across from Sac State.
