Regional Transit Increases Security for Passenger Safety

Sacramento's Regional Transit Police are increasing security on nights and weekends.

Regional Transit guards will now be riding every train at night and on weekends.

"In addition, we're asking that our station guards start interacting with our customers more, by checking their fares and assisting them with purchasing fares at the various vending machines," Lt. Norm Leong said.

Leong says additional security officers are being added to monitor video cameras, where they can address nuisances and criminal activity.

"We're hoping that we get officers and guards to respond more quickly," he said.

Leong calls it the "first phase" of Regional Transit's efforts to address safety concerns, and they plan to add even more officers to evening and weekend patrol in the future.
