The remains of a Mission Bay apartment building destroyed Tuesday in a five-alarm fire are being demolished.

ABC-7 says a construction company brought in equipment Wednesday around 3 p.m. to pull apart the gutted building.

Parts of the building are still in danger of collapsing and San Francisco fire crews are standing by to put out any smoldering areas in the ruins.

Several residents evacuated from nearby apartment buildings will not be allowed back into their homes until the demolition is complete.
