California congresswoman Doris Matsui sent a letter to Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez raising concern over California's Employment Development Department's processing system for the federal Unemployment Insurance program.

The letter urges the Department of Labor to deploy experts to California to assist with fixing the problem, as they did when Florida was having a similar problem.  The letter also requests additional federal funding to better administer the Unemployment Insurance program here in California.

In September, EDD converted to a new computer processing system, however software glitches forced EDD to process 150,000 benefits by hand and that led to major delays in benefits for many Californians.
