Report: No Criminal Charges Against Deputy Who Shot Andy Lopez
Posted July 7th, 2014 @ 1:13pm by KFBK News

The Sonoma County District Attorney is reportedly not filing criminal charges against the sheriff's deputy who shot and killed a teenage boy last fall after mistaking the boy's toy rifle for a real one.

The DA says investigators determined that the deputy "fired his weapon in response to what he honestly and reasonably believed was an imminent threat of death to himself or others."

Andy Lopez, 13, was killed by Deputy Erick Gelhaus during the incident on Oct. 22, 2013.

According to a report in the "Santa Rosa Press Democrat," District Attorney Jill Ravitch has scheduled an afternoon news conference to discuss the decision.

The death of the boy led to an outcry and protests from the community.
