Residents displaced by the Sand Fire in Amador County may be eligible for reimbursement for additional living expenses caused by mandatory evacuations.

State Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones said homeowners should know their insurance policies.

"Check your policy. If you have questions about it, call your broker or your agent -- ask them about your coverage," Spokeswoman Nancy Kincaid said.

The coverage typically includes food and housing costs, furniture rental, relocation and storage, and extra transportation expenses.

The Sand Fire stands at 3,800 acres and is 80 percent contained.
