A Fairfield neighborhood is getting back to normal after an armed suspect kept the community at bay during a nearly eight-hour-long standoff.

Residents are finally resting easy, after the suspected gunman was found dead inside the home he was held up in.

Fairfield police say the suspect fired as many as 50 shots, forcing residents to shelter inside their homes for hours.

Police began receiving reports that someone was shooting in a residential area around 1 p.m. Monday.

Police tried making contact with the suspect, who barricaded himself inside the home on the 4900 block of Springwood Circle.

They used flash bangs and tear gas to try to get the suspect out.

When police finally entered, they found the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspects name has not been released.
