It's either patrol the neighborhood or have a gang unit. In Roseville, you can't have both!

Short staffed and in need of a presence on the street, the Roseville Police Department has temporarily shutdown its gang suppression unit and reassigned those officers to street duty.

Police Chief Daniel Hahn tells the Sacramento Bee his department is enduring a perfect storm of sickness, injuries, and several vacant spots on the force.

The department is still recovering from lean years brought on by the Great Recession.

So for now, a sergeant and two uniformed officers are back on the beat.
