Roseville is looking out for seniors with a new volunteer program.

The Roseville Police Department has an energetic group of volunteers who are willing to help ensure seniors are safe and sound by giving them a call once a week.

"We're calling it a telephone reassurance program. We're also calling it, You Are Not Alone," Police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said.

A volunteer from YANA will call once a week on an agreed upon time. If the phone is not answered after several attempts, a series of steps are taken to ensure the safety of the participants, which could include a home visit.

Gunther says the volunteers will talk with seniors or sign up for the free program and direct them to helpful services if appropriate.

A loved one can also request calls be made to a senior of their choice.
