Tonight the Sacramento City Council is scheduled to vote on what are called Stage 2 water restrictions.

That means city water customers will need to reduce their water use by 30%.

This move comes as drought-like conditions continue in California, and a report prepared for the council shows 2013 was the driest year ever recorded in this part of the state.

That reports refers to our current situation as a "criticial drought condition."

With council approval, the city water department will put together a public education campaign to promote conservation, but they will also step up inspections and enforcement.
