No news was good news for the Sacramento waterways this Labor Day.

"As far as Metro's jurisdiction is concerned, we have had zero rescues, zero calls for rescues this entire Labor Day weekend. The message that's going out there throughout the summer seems like it's being heard," Sac Metro Fire Spokeswoman Michelle Eidam said.

Eidam says, as a whole, this holiday weekend saw a sharp decline in water rescues.

She attributes the decline to the life jacket loan out program and the alcohol ban.

As a reminder about the ongoing drought, the California Department of Parks and Recreation says skip the boat wash this year.

Unless you need to rinse the salt water, just wipe the boat down with a damp cloth.
