The Sacramento Republic FC's new Cal Expo stadium may seem a little small, but it opens some big doors.
The team will play its first match at the eight thousand seat Bonney Field tomorrow night and fans will have some adjusting to do because they're down from the 20 thousand seat Hughes Stadium.
The switch was necessary because Hughes isn't built for soccer and wouldn't help with a goal of going major league.
"A goal is a dream with a deadline. And we launched it with a campaign on the map 2016," spokesperson Erika Bjork said.
Bjork says Bonney Field also serves another purpose. It can host not just soccer, but rugby and the USA team will be here playing Canada on Saturday.
"It's there first appearance here in Sacramento, and it would not be taking place if it were not for this facility," Bjork said.
