Sac State and SMUD are coming together to get more students working in the energy industry once they graduate.

"SMUD has been a real, real big supporter -- not just of job creation but the educational foundations that we need to produce really, really well trained students that go into the workforce," CSUS President Alexander Gonazales said.

Gonazales says the partnership between the utility company and his engineering and computer science departments is a natural fit.

There will be a push towards creating new research opportunities for both students and faculty.
