The City of Sacramento is losing one of its longest serving politicians. Councilwoman Bonnie Pannell has told the Sacramento Bee that she is stepping down because of health reasons.
In 2011, Pannell was diagnosed with aphasia, a neurological condition that makes it difficult for patients to communicate using language. Since then, she says she has only seen her condition worsen.
Pannell has served on the council for 16 years representing the Meadowview, Parkway and North Laguna communities.
She ran for the seat after her late husband, Sam passed away. He held the seat for six years.
