For the third consecutive year, Sacramento County ended the fiscal year with a surplus, according to a budget committee report.

The $44 million windfall has prompted the county to recommend a $5 million increase for the Sheriff's Department budget, $650,000 for the Probation Department, and $850,000 for the District Attorney's office.

Nearly $13 million would be allocated to internal borrowing.

Staff is also recommending additional money for animal care, regional parks, and their reserve fund.
