The Sacramento Police Department is celebrating the one year anniversary of a partnership with, a social network for neighborhoods.

"And it's turned into a virtual Neighborhood Watch," the department's Jenna Swafford said.

Swafford says membership increased more than 400 percent since the local launch, and they're hoping for a similar growth this year.

She says the site is a new way for officers to communicate with those they serve.

"When a crime has happened over night, we can let the neighbors know that it happened, and we can also let them know what the follow-up was," Swafford said.

The department has shared more than 500 posts with members on either a citywide or neighborhood level.
