Sacramento Protest in Honor of Michael Brown
Posted August 17th, 2014 @ 3:59pm by KFBK News - Kendall Tobe

Protesters gathered Sunday afternoon in front of the Sacramento County Main Jail at 651 I street for a peaceful protest to raise awareness of last week’s shooting death of unarmed teenager, Michael Brown.

Brown was shot by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.  The protest today was organized by Christina Arechiga, whose cousin, Ernest Duenez Jr., was killed by a Manteca police officer in 2011.

Arechiga planned the demonstration as an act of solidarity with the people of Ferguson.

According to Kendall Tobe the event started at 1 p.m. and about 150 people stood in front of the Sacramento County Main Jail chanting, “Hands up Don’t Shoot and Film the Police." Protesters carried signs that said, "Murder by Cop, Stop the Violence and Stop Police Brutality."

Cars drove by honking to support the protesters as several police officers stood nearby to ensure the protest remained peaceful.
