Numerous agencies are making substantial donations to help victims of the strongest typhoon to ever make landfall.  Sutter Health today announced a $200,000 gift to be split evenly between the American Red Cross and the International Medical Corps.

E & J Gallo Winery is also contributing $100,000  to the Red Cross Relief effort:

"We're a global company and this disaster strikes close to home as we've got valued relationships with distributors, retailers, and consumers who live throughout the Philippines and have suffered some significant losses" said John Segale from the Winery.

Jackson Rancheria is giving $50,000 to the Red Cross effort that has disaster relief specialists on the ground in the island nation.  The Red Cross has also activated its family tracing services.

If you're looking for a family member missing in the Philippines, you have two resources to help:

  1. If the missing person is a U.S. Citizen, you need to call the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizen Services at 1-888-407-4747 (and be prepared to be patient and persistent... the number is frequently busy - especially in the first days following a disaster).

  2. If the missing person is NOT a U.S. Citizen, the local American Red Cross chapter offers assistance. Their number is (916) 993-7070.
