At the Sacramento City Council meeting Tuesday night, residents demanded the city dip into Measure U funds, money raised through a half cent sales tax, to restore core city services and use it for more police.

"Please do what it takes to hire more officers to keep this city safe," one man said.

Approved by voters in 2012, Measure U revenues flow into the city's general fund and could be used for any purpose including libraries, parks, community programs and for police and fire services.
