A swimmer, a chef, a news anchor -- The Sacramento Speakers Series has released the names for the 2014-15 season.
Headed to Sacramento in the coming months are long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad, chef and restaurateur Alice Waters, to coincide with Sacramento's Farm-to-Fork Week, and CNN's Anderson Cooper.
One speaker that Managing Principal Mitch Ostwald is especially looking forward to:
"I'm really excited to be able to bring former Secretary of State Robert Gates to Sacramento," Ostwald said. "He was adviser to eight U.S. presidents and his book, 'Duty Memoirs of a Secretary at War,' is just kinda opened up the whole discussion again to our need for a national strategy and policies regarding international engagement, so that will be great," he said.
Cellist Yo-Yo Ma and NY Times columnist David Brookes round out the list. You can subscribe by buying tickets to the final speaker of the current series, The Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten or by starting a new subscription.
