The new Sacramento County Superior Court building has a plot of land to sit on.
$10 million to buy a lot in the Railyard downtown was approved, but the project still needs up to $400 million from the state Legislature.
Assemblyman Roger Dickinson says it's a security issue.
"Security arrangements, in particular, in the existing Shaver Courthouse are far below contemporary standards," Dickinson said.
And Dickinson says the $10 million dollars is a start.
So this is a huge step toward getting the ultimate product of a new and much-needed courthouse for downtown Sacramento, Dickinson said.
The new courthouse will be located in a section of the railyard know as Lot 41, and will contain 45 courtrooms.
