Sacramento's city and county warming center at Southside Park Pool building closed today with no plan to reopen based on current weather conditions.
The shelter had been open for the past seven nights as temperatures dipped below freezing in our area. Today's forecast is a high of 52 with a low of 34 degrees. More than a dozen people used the shelter nearly every night.
Other warming center and shelter locations and programs for the homeless remain open including:
- Volunteers of America at 700 N 5th Street
- The Union Gospel Church at 400 Bannon Street
- The Salvation Army at 12th and North B Street
- Sacramento Steps Forward in partnership with the Capital Christian Center opened the Winter Sanctuary which is a program that rotates locations amongst local churches.
