The Sacramento area is getting a new chamber of commerce -- for women.

Current chambers of commerce are certainly open to women, so why is there a need for a new one specifically for women?

"Women network differently, we work together differently. We want to identify and focus on what our regional gaps and needs may be by viewed through the eyes of women in business," Founder, President and CEO Velma Sykes said.

The organization will focus on "leading the way for all women in the Capital Region to realize resiliency, success, wellness, and excellence in business large and small, through advocacy, venture and business development, access to capital, and education and training in entrepreneurship, management, leadership and contracting.

Sykes says there are already 100 charter members signed up.

The inaugural meeting will be at the State Capitol this Thursday.
