A tentative agreement has Sacramento's professional soccer team a step closer to having their own stadium.

The agreement between Ovations Food Service and Cal Expo would allow for construction of a temporary 8-thousand seat stadium at the state fairgrounds. Sacramento Republic Football Club President Warren Smith says Cal Expo's Board of Directors will need to approve the deal at their meeting next Friday. He says they are excited to have reached another milestone and that they have an agreement that works for all three parties.

Smith hopes the stadium will be ready in time for the team's home opener April 26th. If not, the Sacramento Republic will start the season at Sac City College.

The ultimate goal is to build an MLS Stadium downtown.
