Three California hospitals -- including Sutter General in Sacramento -- have been fined by the California Department of Public Health.

Sutter, along L Street, is seeing a $50,000 fine for failing "to ensure the health and safety of a patient" when not following fall prevention policies.

Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley was fined twice and the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs was also charged.

The California Department of Public Health says this is the first penalty for Sutter General.
