Safeway is cutting a check after being sued for by a number of California counties.

The suit says the grocery chain failed to abide by provisions of a 2008 injunction requiring it to minimize pricing discrepancies between what was advertised and what customers paid at the checkstand.

"Products would be as advertised, prices would be as advertised," said Assistant Chief Deputy District Attorney Marv Stern.

Stern said that Safeway failed to abide by those standards and agreed to pay $2,250,000 in costs and fines.

"...spread out to various DA's offices across the state to county weights and measures offices."

The Sacramento County District Attorney's office will receive $222,000 and the Sacramento County Department of Weights & Measures will receive $54,000.
