School Bake Sales Are Going on a Diet

Brownie ban? School bake sales are about to go on a diet.

Every year kids sell chocolate bars or cookie dough to raise money for trips or teams.

That won't change when classes get back in session, but what they're peddling might.

Portions of 2010's Healthy Kids Act are now bringing federal guidelines to all food sold during the day, including fundraisers.

Buttery, salty popcorn is out and so are large donuts.

Fruit cups make the cut, though.

The law does allow districts to determine how many "unhealthy" fundraisers they'll hold per year.

But California has decided to stay within the guidelines.
