A warning for animal lovers, be careful if you want to pet a dog you come across.
A woman in Davis was bit when she stopped to pet a dog that another female was walking on a leash near North Star Park. The victim saw the black female Labrador Retriever, stopped to say hello and was bit when she bent down to pet the dog.
Now, she's trying to locate the animal and owner. Davis Police say they have had a series of incidents lately where dogs bit humans as the person tried to pet them. Police say it's the instinct of many dogs to protect their owner and may sense the movement by a stranger toward their master as an act of aggression.
Davis Police also want to remind dog owners that if their dog bites someone, it's your responsibility to report it to Yolo County Animal Services.
