An experienced runner is lost in the Sierra as a snow storm drops temperatures in the high country.

Heavy wet snow is blanketing the Michigan Bluff area of Placer County where a search for a 55 year old runner has been missing since Sunday.

Robert Root participated in a run with the ShadowChase Running Club of Modesto along the Western States Trail, a narrow footpath through the mountains ending near Foresthill.

Root never finished the run and is suspected of being somewhere along the path in the Michigan Bluff area.

Root is an experienced and enthusiastic runner, he's also an expert in life saving and cpr, but he was not wear heavy weather clothing and not prepared to survive in the elements above the snowline.

A search involving dogs, helicopters and the Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team are combing the ground under the snowy tree lined canopy for Root.
