Investigators served search warrants on a 28-year-old driver who may be connected to this week's horrific car crash in Lodi that left six members of one family dead.

KCRA is reporting that witnesses to the crash said the driver of a tan GMC SUV is responsible for causing the collision, however, the driver may have taken the SUV without permission from its real owner.

Investigators served warrants on 28-year-old Ryan Morales of Lodi. They searched him and a motor home on Mariposa Way.

KCRA reported Morales' mother said her son had been drinking with his father prior to the crash.  Based on evidence recovered from the home, police said Morales and his father had finished a full bottle of apple-flavored vodka.

The witnesses said the driver was traveling at "freeway speeds" and talking on a cell phone at the time of the crash Tuesday night.
