Dozens of bills and potentially billions of dollars. The state legislature was pretty busy today.

Legislative committees shelved some controversial bills ahead of the long weekend, but hundreds of others were given the go ahead -- 160 of them out of Senate Appropriations alone -- at a cost that one Republican lawmaker estimates at $3 billion.

The Assembly passed legislation to ban microbeads in cosmetics,  apparently they got swallowed by fish.

A bill that would exempt California athletes who win Olympic medals from paying state taxes on them also passed.
