The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is reporting an inmate died overnight at a local hospital.

The unidentified 24-year-old inmate, who was being held at the county's main jail on drug and other charges, was found vomiting in his cell just after 1 a.m.

He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but died shortly after arriving.

The cause of death is still under investigation, but a sheriff's department spokeswoman says it doesn't appear suspicious.

The inmate was being held in jail for drug related charges and vehicle code violations.
