It's a work in progress, but Sacramento sheriff's deputies say they're cleaning up a troubled part of the county.

Over the last two months, a special team has been cracking down on prostitution in the area of Watt Avenue, Auburn Boulevard and Interstate 80.

They started with massage parlors.

"There were 10 businesses that we were investigating," Sheriff's spokeswoman Lisa Bowman said.

Bowman says they made seven arrests and seized permits. Then, last month, deputies spread out for two separate stings and netted 45 people.

"We made arrests, for not just prostitution-related crimes, but illegal weapons, illegal drugs, several people who had outstanding warrants," she said.

Bowman says five juveniles were rescued from the sex trade.

They county is now trying to officially close down the massage parlors targeted.
