Solar Panels Blamed for Exploding Birds

A California power plant is harnessing the sun's energy in a unique way, but it's reportedly causing birds to burst into flames.

California's energy commission is looking into this new form of solar energy due to reports of birds being zapped likely by sun rays concentrated by thousands of mirrors at the BrightSource Energy plant.

Employee call the birds "streamers" due to the meteor-like trail of smoke seen as the birds fall.

The plant is located in the Mojave Desert and is owned by Google and two California energy companies.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is urging the state to hold off on permitting another plant of the same kind until a study of what it says is the significant number of birds igniting and falling out of the sky above the plant at a rate of one ever couple of minutes.
