Three students were reportedly caught smoking marijuana at a Sonora school last Thursday, but this isn't your ordinary pot bust.

The three were ELEMENTARY school students. Two 8-year-olds and a 9-year-old.

They were discovered lighting up in a school bathroom by another student who immediately told school administrators.

Sonora Police questioned the three involved before releasing them to their parents.

The case has been forwarded to the Tuolumne County Probation Department.

Police are working to determine how the children got the marijuana.

Sonora Elementary School Superintendent Leigh Shampin wasn't willing to comment on the matter and law enforcement officials haven't returned calls from KFBK.
