Sonora police are investigating their first murder in a decade.

Ricky Roberts, 49, was murdered at his place of work, the garage where he ran building competition demolition derby cars.

He was shot to death. Monday, his mother Donna Burkey spoke to News 10 about the loss of her son.

"Ricky is a born-again Christian, and the only thing that keeps me going is he is with Jesus, and I have the peace in my heart," she said.

Even though Roberts' shop is on a busy street in Sonora, police say there are few clues about the killing and tips are slow to come in.

This was the first homicide in the city of Sonora since Feb. 28, 2001, according to police.

Anyone with any information regarding this crime was asked to call the Sonora Police Department at (209) 532-8141.
