The flu death toll in California continues to climb at an alarming rate.

The California Department of Health now says 243 people have died so far in this flu season.

Last year at this time, the number was only 26, and only 106 deaths were reported for the entire flu season.

Four of this year's deaths were children, and an additional 41 deaths are under investigation, but not confimred.

Los Angeles County has had the most deaths so far, with 33. Sacramento County is second at 26.

Officials encourage everyone six months of age or older to get a flu shot.
