Will there be an appeal? The state is looking for a final decision on its teacher tenure laws.
Attorney General Kamala Harris and Governor Jerry Brown have asked a judge in Los Angeles to finalize and justify his decision in the Vergara v. California case, a closely watched trial that struck down seniority and other job protections for public school teachers.
"So I think that will take a while, but we'll deal with this in due order," Brown said.
This is a precursor to a possible appeal, though Brown wouldn't comment on whether he'd seek one.
A ruling six weeks ago was a tentative. Lawyers for nine students argued low-income schools wind up with bad teachers who are difficult to fire, depriving children of a quality education.
