Saying the city of Sacramento is strong, Mayor Kevin Johnson last night focused on the downtown arena during his annual "State of the City" address at Memorial Auditorium.
The mayor is calling 2014 "The Year of Groundbreakings," the biggest of which will be the new downtown Entertainment and Sports Complex.
"Nothing will STOP us, pun intended," he said.
Mayor Johnson says the new arena will anchor downtown -- with revitalization projects on K Street, at the Capitol Mall, in Old Sacramento and the Railyard, making downtown "a place where people want to go."
"It's critical that we finish what we start. And we've got to build it. It will provide an incredible positive benefit that will far outcede the world of basketball," Johnson said.
Kings Owner Vivek Ranadive got the biggest cheer of the night for his efforts to keep the Kings in town, and build the new arena.
"We are going to make Sacramento one of the premiere cities on the planet," Ranadive said.
