The rate of sexually transmitted diseases in California increased over the last year.

The California Department of Public Health says rates for syphilis increased by 18 percent and Gonorrhea rates went up by 13 percent, or about 100 people per 100,000.

The most commonly reported STD, chlamydia, dropped slightly for the first time in two decades.

Rates continue to be the highest in people aged 15 to 24 and in all there were 216,000 reported cases of STDs in 2013.

An online directory of test sites is available at findstdtest.org. Many clinics offer free tests. For more information, visit here.
