California State Senate President Darrell Steinberg is looking to tie up a loose end that allows suspended members to continue collecting their pay.

Partly in response to criticism that suspended Senators Ron Calderon, Rod Wright and Leland Yee were getting paid vacations, Sen. Steinberg is trying to change state law the bill he's submitting today.

"The legislative council has said very clearly to us that we cannot suspend a member without pay," Steinberg said.

And his legislation will give future Legislatures the ability to do that when necessary, but Steinberg notes it won't be retroactive.

That means Calderon, Wright and Yee will still get paid until they term out.
