Three weeks ago today, the Bank of the West in Stockton was robbed. That led to a police chase and shootout between officers and the bank robbing suspects.
Two of the suspects and a hostage, Misty Holt Singh, were killed during the shootout. Now, new details are emerging on what happened inside the bank.
An eyewitness recalls what happened the day the Bank of the West was held up by three armed men, and what they told customers and employees.
"That we're robbing a bank, show your hands, get out from behind the counter, move it, move it, move it, hurry up, hurry up!"
Speaking on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation, the eyewitness, who only wants to be identified as Mike, tells News10 he doesn't believe the suspects intended to take any hostages.
"They get outside, and we hear from the inside, 'Drop your weapons, drops your weapons, get down, get down.' The cops were already on the scene. Then they came back in the building and said, 'Who pushed the button? Who pushed the button?' We thought we were gonna die," Mike said.
After that, the men escaped the bank taking three women hostage, one of which died during the final shootout with police.
Mike says because the bank had been robbed so often in the past, it should have had better security features.
He's plans to file a lawsuit for his suffering.
