A man allegedly tried to kidnap three young girls during a birthday party at an apartment complex in Stockton.

Three young girls are safe after a the father of one of the girls saved them from a kidnapping attempt Saturday night.

Police say Gerald Childs, 33, was wandering around an apartment complex on North Pershing Avenue before trying to grab an 11-year-old girl.

The 11-year-old girl was celebrating her birthday with her friends outside an apartment complex in Stockton on Saturday night when Childs crashed the party, according to police.

News10 reported that witnesses said Childs jumped over the apartment fence and began growling at the guests.

Authorities say Childs then approached the birthday girl and grabbed her.

The birthday girl struggled but was able to free herself from the man. She then ran into her apartment.

The attack wasn't over yet, though. The suspect tried grabbing two more girls, according to police. The father of the 11-year-old girl then got into a fight with the suspect.

The confrontation between the victim's dad and the suspect became heated but Childs took off running.

The father, Rene Castillo, and Paulene Melton, the mother of one of the other girls, chased Childs down at a local fast food restaurant and held him until police arrived.

Childs faces multiple counts of attempted kidnapping, and annoying or molesting a child.

He is currently being held in the San Joaquin County Jail on a $370,000 bond. Childs is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
