The Stockton Fire Chief wants his crews to stop going to low-level medical emergencies.
In a cost-cutting move Chief Jeff Piechura is proposing sending out a two-person medical team in what's described as a heavy duty pickup equipped for such calls.
The chief told the city council that of the 40,000 calls received by the Stockton Fire Department in 2012, 50 percent were medical emergencies.
Half of those were termed low-level emergencies.
The chief believes it's a waste of resources to send a full crew, truck and ambulance to every medical call.
He also admits to channel three in Sacramento that $450,000 would be spent on the special unit in the first year, then the saving would kick in.
