A Stockton woman, held hostage by an abusive boyfriend, has escaped the cycle of violence and assaults.
The unidentified 29-year-old woman was repeatedly held against her will, sometimes for days at a time, and assaulted by her boyfriend in a quiet neighborhood in Stockton.
This time, when she escaped, she put an end to her abuse and had him arrested.
Sgt. Joe Silva with the Stockton Police Department described the case against 39-year-old Jerry Sandoval.
"It's alleged that he physically abused the victim and then held her against her will several times," he said.
Neighbors such as Manuel Ayala, who live near Sandoval's home on South Laurel Street tell News10 they're surprised by the accusations.
"You never know what's going on behind closed doors. I know the gal, she is a daughter of my friend. It's too bad what happened, it's kind of hard to believe, but I guess, it happened," Ayala said.
Sandoval is a parolee and a documented gang member. He facing a number of charges related to the case.
Sandoval has a hearing scheduled for today.
