The group fighting the $258 million public subsidy for a downtown arena scored an initial victory Friday afternoon.
KFBK's Joe Michael's spoke with Sacramento County Registrar Jill LaVine who told him that an initial count shows, "The Sacramento Taxpayers Opposed to Pork" have turned in enough valid signatures to put the subsidy to a public vote.
"At this point Sacramento County has found 22,498 signatures on this petition to be valid." LaVine said.
That's 333 more than they needed and even after the withdrawl of those who asked that their petitions be removed.
However, Assistant City Clerk Shirley Concolino says that doesn't conclude the validation process. They'll be a second count to confirm before the signatures are checked for election code and city charter requirements.
