Two new studies show that women with a large number of skin moles have a higher risk of developing breast cancer.

Researchers in France followed nearly 90,000 women for 18 years.

Women who reported having "very many" moles had a 13 percent higher risk of breast cancer.

In addition, researchers from Indiana University and Harvard studied medical records of some 75,000 nurses over 24 years.

They found that women who had 15 or more moles were 35-percent more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer.

The studies are published in "PLOS Medicine."
