Supposedly Vacant Sacramento Home Goes Up in Flames

A Sacramento house that was supposedly vacant went up in flames this morning.

The home on 44th Street, between 8th and 10th avenues, in Oak Park, caught fire sometime around 4 a.m.

Assistant Chief Niko King with Sacramento City Fire Department describes what firefighters saw when they got on scene.

"When our crews arrived, it looked like the fire was already well seeded. Firefighters said that there were flames coming out the back of the house,"

Firefighters learned the boarded up residence was, in fact, being occupied.

It was determined the couple living in the home was supposed to have moved out, but instead were sticking around.

Chief King says the couple was lucky to have made it out of the boarded up home alive.

The Red Cross is helping them find new shelter.
