He was sought by law for child molestation and now he also faces charges for assaulting an officer.
28-year-old William Herzog was wanted for several felony charges.
"Some of those charges are sex acts on a child, unlawful sexual intercourse, and possession of an obscene matter depicting a person under 14," said Officer Michele Gigante.
Gigante, with the Sacramento Police Department, said investigators were able to catch up with Herzog in a car in a parking lot near 65th St and 4th Avenue yesterday evening. In the car with him was a 17-year-old girl.
"The officers began to give verbal commands to Herzog to exit his vehicle. He accelerated his engine and drove at the officers, nearly striking them," Gigante described.
An officer with Sac PD and a Sac Sheriff's deputy opened fire hitting Herzog multiple times. He's in critical condition with non life threatening injuries. The teen in the car was not hurt.
